As ACO’s become more and more popular innovators in the health care space are looking to find ways to assist medical professionals in a changing environment. If you weren’t immediately familiar, An ACO, or Accountable Care Organization, is a network of doctors and hospitals that share responsibility for a patients care.

The problem that doctors or hospitals often face is that patients get their care in many different places and with the rise of Telehealth, many different ways often without the knowledge of the medical professionals that cared for them last. The idea is that a patient’s care can be enhanced by all of the people involved being on the same page. If everyone in on the same page it should eliminate some of the repeat tests an unnecessary procedures. ACOs are offered incentives for avoiding unnecessary costs, meeting benchmarks, focusing on prevention and closely managing patients with chronic diseases. One of these innovative companies aims to help with this system of care by bridging the gap in communication.

Cureatr is a startup that provides a connection between providers that supplies information to other caretakers. It uses HIPAA-compliant secure messaging for a all of the medical professionals involved to pass along pertinent information about the patients in their care. This simple idea should be appealing to ACOs specifically because if patient care is easier to monitor across the networks it should allow for easier collaboration and make it easier for them to capitalize on the cost-saving incentives.
